Technical Details | hollowcore



We are able to offer a full and comprehensive product range from our production facility in Leeds, from 100mm deep solid planks to 500mm deep hollowcore flooring units.


At Treanor Pujol we are focused on meeting our customers requirements. From the initial design stage through to the completion of a project our expert team are on hand to offer our comprehensive support and advice.



Our hollowcore products are designed in accordance with BS 8110 and strict quality assurance procedures are in place during manufacturing and material testing.

Composite Flooring


Hollowcore flooring can be combined with an insitu structural concrete topping to form a composite slab. This allows the engineer to tie in other details such as balconies, maximum load distribution and minimum structural depth.


Finishes


Our units are cast on steel casting beds, providing a high standard of finish, to Type A, Clause 6.11.3 of BS8110, and are suitable in appropriate cases for direct decoration. The soffit is suitable for direct application of a textured paint finish where this is applied in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.


Dimensions


All units are manufactured to comply with the cross sectional tolerances set out in BS8110 1997. Hollowcore units are manufactured to the following nominal depths: 500mm, 400mm, 300mm, 250mm, 200mm, 150mm and 100mm.

The standard nominal width for all units is 1200mm. Non-standard width units are formed by cutting the planks longitudinally on the beds, before the concrete has hardened.

Floor layout drawings are based upon normal tolerances, and adjustment to joint widths may be required to complete the floor area. In situ make-up strips can be minimised by using reduced width units.

Grouting


The joints between the units should be grouted with 20N/mm² concrete using a maximum aggregate size of 20mm.


Bearings


All bearings should be level and true with no debris. On masonry bearings there may be a requirement to provide a mortar bed, prior to the placement of units.


Service openings


Service Openings, with a diameter less than 75mm, can be created through units after installation by drilling centrally through the cores. You must consult with our design office before commencing this work.

Generally service openings up to 400mm wide in a single standard unit width are permitted subject to satisfying design criteria. These should be factory formed. Openings up to 1200mm can usually be accommodated, subject to design criteria, using structural steel hangers.

All service openings formed by Treanor Pujol are to be made good by the main contractor after installation of service pipes etc.


Progressive Collapse Design


Hollowcore units can be used for a collapsed design, please contact our technical department for full details.


Fire Resistance


Treanor Pujol Hollowcore floor slabs have a minimum 1 hour fire rating (BS8110 Section 4 Table 4.9). Ratings of up to 2 hours can be achieved depending on design criteria. Contact our technical department.


Sound Resistance


Treanor Pujol Hollowcore floor slabs have a high resistance to both impact and airborne sound transmission and contribute to satisfying the latest building regulations.


Camber


All prestressed floor units will have an upward camber. The degree of camber is dependant upon the span and the prestressing force, but should not normally exceed L/300. Variations in camber between adjacent units will be within the tolerances specified in BS8110, except in areas where the adjacent spans are of different lengths, or where large holes are formed within the middle third of the units.
